Worshipping any entity other than the LORD is defined as a wicked act of idolatry.
King Jeroboam of Israel was sovereignly elevated to his position of power by God.God bestowed the largest portion of the kingdom upon Jeroboam however Jeroboam’s subsequent actions stood in direct contrast to the high position God granted him.
After being lifted up by the Lord, Jeroboam turned against Him.
Jeroboam committed a grave sin by constructing two golden calves.
One of the golden calves was established in the location of Bethel. The second golden calf was placed in a location called Dan.1 Kings 12:28-30[28]So the king took counsel and made two calves of gold. And he said to the people, It is too much for you to go [all the way] up to Jerusalem. Behold your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.29]And he set the one golden calf in Bethel, and the other he put in Dan.[30]And this thing became a sin; for the people went to worship each of them even as far as Dan.
As to thus, we realise that the act of creating these idols is presented as a betrayal of the divine favor Jeroboam received.
Jeroboam’s leadership is characterized by a shift from divine appointment to pagan worship.
