As we reflect on our lives, it becomes evident that many of us struggle with the tendency to elevate ourselves beyond our rightful positions and what we truly possess.
Avoid speaking about yourself in ways that do not align with your reality.
It’s important to be genuine and not present an inflated version of who you are. During a visit to the home of a Pharisee leader, Jesus shared a profound lesson: those who exalt themselves will ultimately be humbled, while those who choose to humble themselves will be exalted. Luke 14:10-11
[10]But when you are invited, go and recline in the lowest place, so that when your host comes in, he may say to you, Friend, go up higher! Then you will be honored in the presence of all who sit [at table] with you.11]For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled (ranked below others who are honored or rewarded), and he who humbles himself (keeps a modest opinion of himself and behaves accordingly) will be exalted (elevated in rank).
Reflective Questions on the Teaching:
a) What did Jesus state would happen to those who exalt themselves?
b) What did Jesus say would occur for those who humble themselves?
c) What actions did Jesus take when He visited the house of the Pharisee leader?
d) Analyze the purpose of this teaching in light of our perspectives.
Confession Prayer
Dear Lord Jesus, I commit to not exalting myself but will instead choose to humble myself under Your mighty hand.
