Let’s face it, not everyone who tells you what’s coming next is a prophet. Some folks simply possess the gift of prophecy, which gives them a unique insight into the future—kind of like having a divine crystal ball!
This gift allows them to discern and foretell what lies ahead for individuals and nations alike. Here’s the scoop: You can’t truly grasp what the future holds in the spirit unless you’ve been blessed with a certain supernatural gift.
The gift of prophecy is vital to the body of Christ, to believers, and to the global church because it empowers us to understand what’s coming down the pike. Take Agabus, for example. Whilst He too possessed the gift of prophecy. With this gift, he accurately foretold what would happen to Paul in Jerusalem—complete with details about how Paul would be arrested. Just as Agabus saw the future through the gift of prophecy, we can also gain insights into what’s to come. Acts 21:10-1210]While we were remaining there for some time, a prophet named Agabus came down from Judea.11]And coming to [see] us, he took Paul’s belt and with it bound his own feet and hands and said, Thus says the Holy Spirit: The Jews at Jerusalem shall bind like this the man who owns this belt, and they shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles (heathen).12]When we heard this, both we and the residents of that place pleaded with him not to go up to Jerusalem.
Reflective Questions about the Teaching
a) Through which gift of the Spirit are we able to apprehend the future?
b) How was Agabus able to predict what would happen to Paul when he arrived in Jerusalem?
c) What divine understanding can we glean from this perspective?
d) How does this teaching relate to our everyday lives?
e) Was Paul the Apostle arrested as Agabus had foretold?
