You know, it’s often a real challenge—like trying to find matching socks in the dryer—to repay kindness to those who haven’t treated you well.
Sometimes, those individuals are friends, family members, or even coworkers. Take Shimei, for example. This guy really threw a fit when King David was fleeing from Absalom. According to 2 Samuel 16:5-6, as David approached Bahurim, Shimei, son of Gera, came out cursing him left and right.
He was so fired up that he even started throwing stones at David and his loyal men. Talk about a bad day! You might think David would retaliate, but instead, he showed Shimei mercy. When David eventually returned to Israel, guess who was one of the first to greet him? That’s right—Shimei! He welcomed David back with open arms, proving that mercy can sometimes be more powerful than vengeance.

Confession Prayer:
Dear Lord Jesus, I pray that you help me show mercy to those around me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
