Why Didn’t God Establish Saul’s Kingdom Forever?
A Lesson from Minister Judah
Have you ever pondered why Saul’s kingdom didn’t last? Well, grab your thinking caps, because the answer might just tickle your funny bone!
The root of our confusion often lies in our own disobedience to God’s instructions. When you dive into the Bible, you’ll discover that God initially intended to establish Saul’s kingdom forever. Yes, you heard that right! But then, things took a turn, and the grand plan went off the rails. So, what happened? The culprit was none other than disobedience—a classic case of not following the directions! Take a look at 1 Samuel 13:8-13. Saul was told by the prophet Samuel to wait for him to arrive so they could offer burnt and peace offerings together. But, in classic “I-can’t-wait” fashion, Saul decided to take matters into his own hands. Here’s how it went down:
[8] Saul waited seven days, as Samuel had instructed. But when Samuel didn’t show up at Gilgal, and the people began to scatter, Saul panicked. [9] So, he called for the burnt offering and peace offerings, even though he was forbidden to do so. [10] Just as he finished, guess who shows up? Samuel! Saul rushed out to greet him. [11] Samuel asked, “What have you done?” To which Saul replied, “I saw the people scattering, and you didn’t come when you said you would! The Philistines are coming! I thought I had to do something!”
[12] So, he “forced” himself to offer the burnt offering. [13] Samuel responded, “You’ve acted foolishly! You didn’t obey the command of the Lord your God! Because of that, your kingdom over Israel won’t last forever!”
Now, let’s reflect on this teaching
a) What’s causing all this ambiguity in our lives? Maybe it’s our tendency to skip the instructions!
b) Why didn’t the Lord establish Saul’s kingdom forever? Well, let’s just say Saul’s impatience got in the way!
c) What lessons can we draw from this? Perhaps waiting is a virtue, especially when it comes to divine instructions!
d) Now, let’s analyze: Is it worth rushing decisions when a little patience could lead to a kingdom? I think we all know the answer! In conclusion, the next time you find yourself feeling a little ambiguous, remember Saul and his hasty offerings. Sometimes, a little patience can make all the difference!
